Are you a candidate for a specialty contact lens? While most patients are able to wear traditional soft contact lenses, not everyone is so lucky. We treat patients with high astigmatism, keratoconus and other ectasias, corneal transplants, irregular corneas, ocular surface disease, and other conditions which benefit from specialty contact lens wear.

We welcome hard to fit contact lens patients. Many of our patients have been told in the past that they were not good candidates for contact lenses. Dr. Meredith Treece is uniquely trained in fitting specialized contact lenses including scleral lenses. Using the latest technology, Dr. Treece is able to provide comfortable contact lenses for even the most complex cases. Dr. Treece sees patients up and down the east coast and has lectured on contact lenses.

In order to achieve an appropriate fit, your appointments will be longer than the traditional eye examination. Several adjustments of your lenses to optimize your fit should be expected.

Scleral Lenses

Custom designed scleral lenses help patients with sensitive eyes or corneal irregularities achieve dramatic improvements in visual acuity and comfort. Scleral lenses vault over the cornea and rest on the sclera instead. This creates a new optical surface and prevents discomfort by minimizing irritation to the cornea.

Gas Permeable Lenses

Gas permeable contact lenses are rigid lenses made of durable plastics that allow oxygen to pass through the lens. These lenses also are called GP lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, RGP lenses and oxygen permeable lenses.

Myopia Control Lenses

Introducing MiSight, the specialized prescription lens that helps correct far vision and reduces strain for near vision. This lens corrects and controls Myopia, all at the same time. It is superior to single vision lenses, which only corrects far vision without helping to reduce strain on near vision.

Keratoconus Lenses

Contact lens fitting for KC is part science, part art. A great deal of patience is required both on the part of the fitter and the patient. Rely on an experienced KC lens fitter to select the best lens for your eye. The needs of each individual is carefully weighed to find the lens that offers the best combination of visual acuity, comfort and corneal health.

Specialty Contact Lens Supplies

Nutrifill

Nutrifill is a preservative-free lens insertion solution specifically designed for scleral lens wearers and the wearers of hybrid and gas permeable contact lenses.  It has been physiologically formulated to mimic your body’s natural tears.  It contains electrolytes sodium, phosphate, potassium, calcium, and magnesium; all essential ions found in our tears.

Lacripure

Lacripure is a unit-dose non-preserved saline solution indicated for rinsing soft, rigid gas permeable and hybrid contact lenses prior to insertion.  The sterile saline solution is also indicated for filling scleral lenses prior to insertion.

Unique ph

Unique pH is a highly effective multipurpose solution for gas permeable contact lenses.  Soaking your GP lenses in Unique pH removes dirt, protein deposits and debris.  This solution conditions lenses by adjusting to the eye’s natural tear pH to enhance the wettability and comfort of gas permeable contact lenses on insertion.

Tangible boost

Tangible Boost is a prescription-only, monthly treatment to restore the Tangible Hydra-PEG coating, and maintain the wettability of Tangible Hydra-Peg coated rigid gas permeable contact lenses.

Inserter

Inserters are special tools used to insert scleral lenses.

Remover
